Hi,
As Israelite that are used to being bombed we got used to the ten minutes rule: do not leave the protected are for at least ten minutes from the moment you hear the siren alarm.
The idea behind it was, that even if you hear the interception, there may still be interception fragments falling down from the sky. And those fragments may be lethal as well.
Now we have to get use to being released from the protected area by a cell broadcast massage or by the Home Front Command app massage. It took us couple of times to realize we should stay in the protected area until that massage and not only count the ten minutes we got used to.
Long before it, Israel used to have a siren alarm to announce the event had ended. Or at least that is what they keep telling you – that in school. I must say that as a grown man I had never heard it in my life – and I wonder if it is even real.
I asked my parents about it and they could only remember up from the Gulf War. Back then there were instead of siren alarms, there was a code to call people to get in – Nahash Tzefa (Palestine viper). But almost none remember what was the code to get out of the room. This is, if you wonder – was Khamsin Kaved (Heavy Heat Wave).
According to Wikipedia the all clear siren is really rarely used in Israel since the Gulf war. It used to be just a long siren, in oppose to the up and down alarm siren that sends us to the protected area.
Take Care
Gad
