So why does Iran hates Israel so much? What is the reason the Islamic regime is willing risk itself to create a nuclear weapon to threat Israel withe demolition?
First, it wasn’t always like this. Before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran (then still Persia) and Israel actually had quiet cooperation. I even wrote to you about how my Saba had spent several years there working as a mechanic of a construction company.
Everything changed when Ruhollah Khomeini took power and turned Iran into an Islamic republic. From that moment, hostility toward Israel became part of the regime’s identity.
First of all Iran sees Israel as a colonial state of the western world, stuck in the middle of the Muslim Middle East. Iran sees Israel as an extension of the United States and Western influence in the Middle East. Fighting Israel is, in their eyes, part of resisting Western dominance.
Second – Israel is Jewish and the regime in Iran see it as a part of its broader religious duty to defend Muslims and Islamic land. Some ideological streams even link the destruction of Israel to religious prophecy.
Third – Iran wants to be a dominant power in the Middle East, maybe thinking of its long history an wish to be an empire again. Opposing Israel helps it position itself as the leader of the “resistance” camp and gain influence across the region through allies like Hezbollah and others.
Another point is that the hostility toward Israel also helps unify the regime internally. Having a clear external enemy strengthens revolutionary ideology and distracts from domestic issues. And we in Israel know who politicians (Bibi, Ben Gvir, Smotrich…) love to have an enemy to unite against.
Just keep one thing in your mind – this is largely the position of the Iranian regime, not necessarily what the Iranian citizens think and wish.
