It was a bad morning with the announcement of IDF that 8 soldiers of Golani infantry brigade had lost their life in fighting in the north Gaza strip.
It is again Shujaiyeh neighborhood in Gaza. Where a fierce and bloody battle of Golani brigade took place during operation Protective edge. And yes, it is again Golani brigade who suffered that lethal hit.
Among the fallen is the battilion commander and another high rank officer. More than 70 Golani brigade soldiers had lost their life in this war, as two battilions of the brigade (battilion 13 and battilion 51) were the first to response to Hamas terror attack on October 7th.
Golani brigade has a history of brave, fierce, and bloody fights. As one of officers in my company had pointed out once, give me a war, and I will give you the brave fight of Golani brigade had in it.
I did not open the list of victims of the October 7th massacre, I did not have the cellphone time out on the field to go over all the names and see if I knew them.
But since the ground maneuver had started, and the IDF death names is published daily in the IDF speaker Whatsapp channel, I keep opening each announcement.
Not because of Guri, my younger brother.If something happens to him, IDF will announce it as part of the procedure. But because I might know someone else, I know in the list: friends, further family, colleagues, co-workers, and so on.
If I do not know them , this is the time I should: the people who gave away their life to keep ours.
