Dan spring – 159th day of war

Hi,
After visiting Tel Dan yesterday, and looking for a good point for a lookout, I realized I missed Dan spring in our tour. Today I came back to hike the place, which is empty from visitors due to the situation in north.

It is located inside Tel Dan Nature Reserve, and not accessible from out of it. The reserve has beautiful hiking routes, some of them accessible for wheelchair (including the wooden bridge, that gives a good view of the river flows).

The spring is the main source of Dan river, the largest of Jordan river sources, and is considered to be the largest Karstic spring in the Middle East, and it flows from the feet of the Tel. The melting snow from Mount Hermon trickles down to the ground, and break out here, in the border of different deposits. The spring supplies 250 cubic meter, in a constant rate.

The spring has one major spring (called En Dan) and many more small springs that flows into the river along its way. The hiking route of nature reserve leads you through the small spring til the main one.

Additional spring flows out from the top of the Tel, such as En Leshem and the sunken spring (that flows into the sinkhole), and feeds the Jordan river.
