It took long for our luck, but we got an injury from the company. He was injured light from a shrapnel that came from the the heavy machine gun (M2 Browning) he was shooting at, and penetrated its leg.
The guy was so high on Adrenalin, from firing in this massive machine gun, he barely noticed he got hit from this shrapnel. In a matter of fact, none of us really understand how he managed to got hit this way.
We were taking the mission of guarding our post, and he was on one of the guarding locations and he shot this heavy machine gun and got injured. For that it was easier to evacuate him quickly out of Gaza Strip and to the hospital,
It was not the first time a soldier in company got injured. But before those were small cuts and hits. It is the first time one of our soldiers in the company was injured and had to be rushed to the hospital for medical treatment and a surgery.
The battalion already had injured soldier, he was severely injured from Hamas sniper bullet. We, the company, luckily still did not got any hit from Hamas terrorists – and I do hope none of us will.
I was not in the post at the time of the injury, as I was in our family vacation. I got the news about his injury the way rest of the soldiers got it – a picture in the Whatsapp group. Our battalion, and our company, still need to learn how to communicate those incidents out.
