Firewall – 649th day of war

Hi,
I usually think of term firewall in terms of computer, cyber and Hi-Tech (not that I really understand anything about it, but still). But what we do now is to create a firewall around us when enter a new area in Gaza strip.

We are using all ammunition and all means we have, and use to fire firearms we were asked not use and keep for later use (including shoulder missiles, such as the M72 LAW anti tank missile, we have been carrying around for years, but were never allowed to use).

But we are not the only one to do so, as it seems as IDF general policy in Gaza strip since the beginning of the ground maneuver. You prefer another 5.56 bolt magazine fired than a soldier hurt or wounded. Or better say – you prefer the whole company to fire their all ammunition than one soldier hurt.

Just to make things clear, that is not a Fire as you wish situation: You do not pull up your personal weapon and start shooting while you in the middle of conversion with another. As always in the army you need to know what you are firing at, when and how much. You have commanders who clearly state the above so you will no hurt civilians or other forces around you.

Is it the best way? I am not sure. I guess there could be better ways to keep us safe other than just create a firewall around us, but when you have an hammer every problem looks like a nail, isn’t it?

Take Care
Gad
