The siren that started 2nd Iran war for us caught Mindal, Dub, Xuxa and I while we were alone on a cold Sabbath morning on the school football field. We run (or bike in case of Mindal) back home to the protected area in our apartment.
We knew it will come sooner or later, and it still surprised me when I heard the siren. I did not take the time to check the phone or I would have been a lot cooler. Just like in the first war of Israel and Iran (Am Kelavi), the siren was to alert us of the attacks of Israel in Iran, and to inform us we need to be close to the protected area. At least this time, it was not at 3:00 AM, like it was in the first time.
But it was not long until the real siren, sending us into the shelters and protected areas came. And since that point we were almost did not allowed to get out. I tried to buy some missing groceries. Three times I got the the grocery store, and three times the siren alert sent me back home to the protected area.
That alert came at the end of a long waiting period, in which all Israel has been in for past couple of months: waiting and preparing for this war, that might be any minute. And on the same time keep living you life like nothing will happen and keep planning to meet friends on Sabbath afternoon (won’t happen), preparing customs for the kids for Purim (won’t happen), arranging the holiday in Greece in Passover (might happen), etc.
Like in any war, we know how it started but none knows how and when it will ends…
