The Factory

Hi,

I decided to have a change at work. Not a big change, might be just a small one, but big enough for me: I stopped calling the project I am working in the name of the high-tech company as I used till in.  Instead  I started to call it “the factory”. I know it doesn’t sound like a big deal, but it does make things more clear. For me as well for others.

It removes all the glory from the place. I mean, it is a factory and I do have to wear a safety helmet, safety shoes, glove, safety vest and googles (at least when I go outside to the field). And even when I sit in the office, it makes me understand the environment (the noise and the movement around are not like a regular building office).

It also change the environment reaction at times when I talk about my work. Now nobody thinks I work in an high-tech company, as they do till now. When they asked me where I work I used to answered the name of the high-tech factory. At that moment everybody’s used to open their eyes, as this name represents the biggest employee in Israel. And not the only the biggest, but also high ranked as one of the top ten companies you wish to work for in Israel.

I had then to cool things down, and explain I don’t work for the company. I am working for my engineering firm which been hired by the company sub – contractor. That sounds a lot less attractive….

Now when someone asks where I work, I simply say “at a factory in the south”.  That usually where that conversion ends. And if one asks “which?” I then say the name, but now it sounds completely different….

Take Care
